Porto

I arrived in Porto, found myself a hostel which was very low key (exactly what I needed) and slept for 10 hours – amazing!

I located a phonebook the next day and called one of the Australian girls who I had been travelling with on Bus About who was staying with some family – she arranged to pick me up and advised she had a surprise for me…… intriguing!

Tickets to see the Rolling Stones tonight!  Incredible!

We arrived a Estádio do Dragão for the gig which didn’t disappoint.

IMPORTANT NOTES: Mick Jagger has the skinniest legs I’ve ever seen. We danced with Vitorino (famous singer in Portugal… apparently).

On my second day in Porto, I explored the city.

From across the Rio Douro at sunset, romantic Porto, the country’s second-largest city, looks like a pop-up town. A colourful tumbledown dream with medieval relics, soaring bell towers, extravagant baroque churches and stately beaux-arts buildings piled on top of one another, illuminated by streaming shafts of sun. If you squint you might be able to make out the open windows, the narrow lanes and staircases zigzagging to nowhere.

The views of the river from the Old Town are simply stunning, the famous Ponte de Dom Luís I (bridge) is amazing and the Cathedral was also well worth the visit.  Porto is a beautiful city which I would love to come back to one day and explore further.
