The Grand Canal in Venice, Italy

Venice, Italy

I have spent 5 days in Venice and haven’t done very a whole lot.  i watched that two semi-finals of the Football World Cup in the campgrounds bar.  I ventured into town twice, explored on my own the first time through San Marco & San Polo along the Grand Canal.

San Marco Square

It’s such a stunning city, cute streets with very tall buildings, most of which can only be reached by boat.

The Rio di San Cassiano Canal with boats and colorful facades of old medieval houses in Venice, Italy. Bell-tower of San Cassiano (Church of Saint Cassian) is visible in background.

No vehicles can get into the main city as its all water cancels and apparently there are over 400 bridges.  The second time i went into town I met up with Steve, a guy met travelling in Bolivia earlier this year. It was nice to see someone that I sort of know.  I’m 5 months into my backpacking trip across South America and Europe and have now started to miss the company of my friends and family.

I had quite a few drunken nights in Venice lots of fun in the campground but lots of trouble.

I love travelling and try to go 'off the beaten track' as much as possible. I've travelled through out 50+ countries and cannot wait to reach my next target of visiting a total of 100 countries around the world.
